Tiger Woods back on the leaderboard and back turning heads

Woods built on a solid start in his return to golf by shooting 31 on the front nine at Albany Golf Club, only to stall on the back nine for a 4-under 68.

Woods, who underwent a fourth back operation in April, made a storming start in the Bahamas on Friday, birdieing three of the first four holes to join Tommy Fleetwood at the top of the leaderboard on six under.

A birdie at the first following a flawless drive and a clipped wedge to five feet got the show on the road before further birdies at the par five third and par four fourth moved him into a tie for the lead at six under.

NASSAU, Bahamas - Tiger Woods offered a blast from the past on Friday afternoon - and just maybe a glimpse into the future. I had a lot of adrenalin going out there and had to dial it back a little.

"I thought I did great", he told broadcaster Sky Sports. "Now I have a chance to go out there and play competitive golf again". Those are the internal struggles I haven't had for a while.

It took one round of three-under par for Vegas to start drinking the Tiger Woods Kool-Aid.

On the par-five third his eagle putt from just off the green went just wide but left him with an easy birdie. Justin Thomas, Charley Hoffman and Francesco Molinari shot identical scores to be tied alongside Woods. "The greens they seemed to be a foot faster", he said after his round.

Indeed that was what caused a first dropped shot of the day at the 12th after he raced his birdie putt past and failed to make the par putt back.
