Google finally corrects its burger emoji

Burger Emoji

Notice anything different about the first and the second Cheeseburger emoji displayed above (aside from the fact that one says old and one says new, each being depicted in the type-set).

Microsoft, Facebook, and Twitter get it right with their Five Guys approach: lettuce, tomato, cheese, and patty, sandwiched between two buns. Well they promised to fix the issue and they followed through.

According to a report from Emojipedia, Google has finally fixed the hamburger emoji, as you can see in the image above. But for now, I think the forgiving process can begin.

At the time, chief executive Sundar Pichai said he would "drop everything" to correct the cartoon. The discussion was exclusively based on the placement of cheese in Google's burger emoji. The discussion gathered a lot of attention on Twitter and many other social media platforms. Emojis are, however, not the only changes in Android 8.1 Developer Preview 2.

According to Emojipedia, which first reported the change, other impending emoji updates include "beer" and "beers", soon to feature a full stein instead of a half-poured draught; as well as "cheese", which corrects a bug that places a line through holes on the edge of the wedge. This was when the tech giant served Android burgers to staff at the beginning of November in its Seattle office.

When someone on Twitter called out Google for the cheese placement in the cheeseburger emoji, it sparked a little debate on whether cheese should be over or under the patty.

Android users can access the new burger emoji immediately if they're running the Android 8.1 developer preview; otherwise you'll have to wait for the public release of 8.1 due out later this year. The website is regarded by many as the Wikipedia of emojis. In Android 8.0, the mug had a weird space between the beer and the froth, but Android 8.1 fixes that by bringing the beer all the way to the top.
