President Donald Trump and his allies have brought up the deal for months, alleging some sort of link between the completion of the deal and donations to the Clinton Foundation since it took place during Hillary Clinton's tenure as secretary of state.

The Fox News host began the segment by summarizing the particulars of the sale of Uranium One, a Canadian firm with rights to mine United States uranium.

While Barack Obama was president, a Russian company bought a Canadian firm that owned some 20 per cent of US uranium supplies.

Because the company had USA holdings, Clinton's State Department was involved in the approval process. "He is a smartass that needs to be on CNN", another said.

"Not only do we know the FBI was investigating the Russian corruption in America - bribing people involved with the deal for uranium - we know that she was the chairman of the committee that had to approve that sale", Gorka said.

"Nine people involved in the deal made donations to the Clinton Foundation totaling more than $140 million".

'The accusation first made by Peter Schweizer, the senior editor-at-large of the website Breitbart in his 2015 book "Clinton Cash". "The next year, candidate Donald Trump cited the accusation as an example of Clinton corruption".

In addition, the State Department CFIUS seat was occupied not by her, but by Jose Fernandez, then-assistant secretary for economic, energy, and business affairs, who has said Clinton played no role in the decision.

Smith spoke on the so-called Uranium One conspiracy, which holds that a deal was made between Hillary Clinton, while she was serving as Secretary of State, and Russian Federation, for the transfer of nuclear material to that nation.

'The accusation is predicated on the charge that Secretary Clinton approved the sale, ' Smith added. If there was nothing to hide, why rebuff an examination into her ties to Russian Federation?

The segment infuriated Fox News viewers who demanded Smith be fired.

'I feel like [Fox News is] actually CNN (fake news) when Shepard Smith is on, ' tweeted another viewer. This week, members of the caucus wrote an opinion piece for Fox News calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to investigate Clinton or "step down".

The day before Smith's takedown, Attorney General Jeff Sessions sent a letter to the House Judiciary Committee chairman stating the Department of Justice is looking at whether there is merit to investigating Clinton and the deal.

During a private meeting with Trump in the Oval Office on November 1, Fox News host Jeanine Pirro insisted he should appoint a special counsel to investigate Hillary Clinton, according to The New York Times.

The list of matters he wants to look into vary but include the FBI's handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.
