One person in custody after stabbing at Mall of America, authorities say

Bloomington police say a suspect is in custody after a stabbing at Macy's in the Mall of America

Police have named the man accused of stabbing two people inside the Mall of America during a botched theft attempt Sunday.

Abdirahaman allegedly tried to steal a customer's belongings from a men's fitting room at the Minnesota mall while the customer had been trying on clothes outside the fitting room. But he caught Abdirahaman in the act, and the would-be thief pulled a knife and stabbed him, authorities said.

The second victim, who was believed to be a family member or friend of the other victim, was stabbed after intervening.

One victim was reportedly stabbed in the back and another has numerous knife wounds. "The suspect is in custody".

Cops wrote on Twitter that the suspect, who was also injured, was taken into custody. "Our thoughts are with the families involved".

Macy's was closed Sunday night while police investigated the incident.

Police Chief Jeff Potts said, "There have been two adult males that have been taken to the hospital and have what are described as non-life-threatening injuries".

"He saw the man walking through before, talking to himself, really really loudly talking to himself", Schwieters said. He got me!' I knew something was not right.
