Southgate names experimental England team to face Germany in Wembley friendly

England vs Germany Team News: Debuts For Abraham, Loftus-Cheek and Pickford

The midfielder, who is on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea this season, was handed his England debut at Wembley in what was the nation's most inexperienced team for 37 years.

The Chelsea midfielder, on-loan at Crystal Palace, impressed at the base of the Three Lions midfield against the world champions on his global bow.

Dier, 23, wore the captain's armband in the worldwide friendly clash that finished 0-0 at Wembley, and although it was a goalless game, it definitely gave some encouragement ahead of the World Cup in Russian Federation next summer as Gareth Southgate was forced to field a second-string side.

"He's got two feet, he's got energy and pace, he can score a goal and he can create goals".

"In the position Ruben played (against Germany), you could play Dele (Alli) there, you could play (Adam) Lallana there, so that different sort of profile of midfield player with a deeper one behind".

"I don't think the wider public maybe would be as aware of him, you'd have to follow him very closely, but we believe in him and we believe in the others that we played".

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had not been in touch before his Wembley bow but former England boss Hodgson has given Loftus-Cheek all the worldly advice he needs.

And he sparkled against the world champions on his global bow by putting in a display that earned him the man-of-the match award. "I was with him for almost three years in the Under-21s, so it wasn't too much of a new thing coming here", a visibly exhilarated Loftus-Cheek stated.

Loftus-Cheek, 21, found it mentally tough to handle life in the shadows and had to learn to be patient.

"I see things in him that lead me to believe he can play at this level and I think he showed that tonight". For me, I would never want to rewind the time, because I learned a lot about myself mentally and I feel like I got mentally stronger. "It's a great opportunity for some of these players". "I just want to play more football", the 21-year-old said.

"We'll see whether Phil [Jones] stays with us, definitely Angus [Gunn] following the injury to Jack [Butland]", Southgate confirmed when asked which players could be promoted for Tuesday's clash with Brazil. "I have a good relationship with Eddie Newton [Chelsea's loan technical coach] and Eddie is helping me behind the scenes".
