Matthew Weiner Accused of Sexual Harassment

Kate Gordon's firing from "Mad Men" has been shrouded in secrecy since the news came to light some eight years ago.

A statement issued by Weiner's representative said that he "does not remember saying this comment nor does it reflect a comment he would say to any colleague".

"I knew immediately when he crossed the boundary that it was wrong", Gordon told The Information. It was extremely satisfying, ' said Gordon of her initial excitement.

At the time, her departure from the show sparked speculation in industry circles as well as at Deadline, which reported that a source said there was nothing illicit in Gordon and Weiner's relationship.

'So I did what I thought women were supposed to do'.

Not long after, Weiner offered her the opportunity to co-write that season finale with him, a shot he'd given to his previous writers' assistants. She claimed "he told me I was bad at everything, from my work in the writers' room to on set".

Gordon, who was 27 at the time, had never won an Emmy while Weiner was picking up his sixth trophy.

Gordon - who says she was inspired to step up after the Weinstein scandal - boosts an Emmy alongside her alleged abuser for "Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series" for the acclaimed show's episode Meditations In An Emergency.

"I could see her confidence was shaken". Despite attempts to forget about the inappropriate remark, Gordon struggled to move past it. "Having a script or some sentences cued up as an arsenal - like a self-defence harassment arsenal - I could have used that in that moment, and it would have saved me years of regret that I didn't handle that situation differently". At first, Gordon said she was "elated" but that as the night wore on, she began to feel "empty", leaving the afterparty early.

No further accusations have been brought against Weiner but judging by the behavior of high-profile predators, Gordon likely won't be the last person to speak out against him.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Weiner called Gordon a few weeks later, informing her that her contract would not be renewed for the fourth season.

"He told me I was awful at everything, from my work in the writer's room to on set", she said, adding that he told her about all the ways she had "fallen short". She is now launching a nonprofit called Modern Alliance to help sexual harassment victims. The statement also said, "During the nine years he was showrunner on 'Mad Men, ' Mr. Weiner had a predominantly female driven writers room".
