Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis will host the College Football Playoff's National Championship game in 2022, it was announced Wednesday. Volunteers coach Butch Jones didn't specify the nature of the injury that knocked Kendrick out of the Kentucky game.

The playoff committee selected the stadium for the January 11, 2021 game, crowning the champion for the 2020 season. We call it "ten in ten"-ten different communities will have hosted the national championship game in the first ten years of the playoff".

"I'm confident this event will be much more than a game for our city", said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett in a statement. He said hosting the game will also provide opportunities to the estimated 78,000 residents who work in the local hospitality industry.

"When we were talking about sites, we kept asking ourselves, 'Why not a northern tier city?'" the CFP executive director Bill Hancock said.

By the time the College Football Playoff wraps up its first decade, its national championship game will have been played at 10 different sites. The Orange Bowl Committee will host the game, which will be played just over one week after the annual Orange Bowl takes place in the same stadium. And Houston is the nation's fourth-largest city and successfully hosted Super Bowl LI earlier this year at NRG Stadium. "It is a crown jewel for us", said Indiana Sports Corp.

Other cities to host the college football championship game from 2021 through 2024 include Miami; Inglewood, California; and Houston from 2021 through 2024. No city has hosted the championship game a few times.

Those are huge deals for the city, but we already know Indianapolis can play host to the biggest events in sports, as witnessed during the 2012 Super Bowl, and annually at the Indianapolis 500.
