ZTE Axon M foldable smartphone with dual 5.2-inch displays announced

ZTE Axon M announced: AT&T exclusive dual screen smartphone functions in four modes

ZTE Axon M has been made official - the company's first foldable smartphone with dual screens. While the handset doesn't feature the best hardware to date, the Shenzhen-based original equipment manufacturer isn't highlighting its basic internal specs as some of its selling points.

ZTE has launched a new portfolio called, the ZTE Axon M, which is a bit of a unusual smartphone in the modern era.

Unlike the idea of a traditional foldable phone, the device does not come with a foldable OLED display that can be twisted or turned to change the device's form factor, but rather, comes with two 5.2-inch displays separated by a hinge that can be used to fold the phone's body up to 180 degrees. It has a 5.2-inch display with 1080p Full HD resolution.

'Consumers need and expect more from their current smartphone and we are proud to collaborate with carriers around the world and AT&T in the U.S.to transform their mobile experience'. Dual Mode allows you to open one app on each screen so you can open different apps on different screen with this dual mode option. The multi-window feature on this device is called as Dual Mode and the user can open different apps on each display for ideal multi-tasking.

ZTE is imagining a number of ways you can use these two screens.

Extended Mode: Use the two screens as one full 6.75-inch display. When the second display is not in use, it folds around to the back of the phone.

ZTE Axon M will run Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box. The smartphone's biggest highlight is its dual screen that can unfold to make up one giant screen.

Mirror mode: This is good for sharing / viewing content with friends sitting across, for example. Do make a note however, that not all apps will work with the extended screen mode. It is powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

ZTE has revealed the first folding phone, beating Samsung and LG to the punch.

As for pricing, the ZTE Axon M has been launched in the USA with a price tag of $725 (approximately Rs. 47,200) and will be made available for purchase in the United States exclusively via U.S. mobile carrier AT&T. It may be a foldable phone.

ZTE has revealed that the phone will be offered in the USA (via AT&T), Japan, China and Europe.

ZTE announced the Axon M amid hints that competitors are gearing up to also release foldable devices.

Axon M packs in a 3,180 mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. It is a 20-megapixel camera with the F/1.8 aperture and Phase detection autofocus, while the camera has also got dual image stabilization and dual LED flash.
