Arsenal boss Wenger fears lengthy absence for Mustafi

Koscielny left has missed three league games for Arsenal

Shkodran Mustafi will miss the game through injury but Laurent Koscielny will start in defence for the Gunners.

The 25-year-old Germany worldwide limped off with a first-half injury as the World Cup holders completed a 100% record in qualifying for Russian Federation 2018 by thrashing Azerbaijan 5-1 on Sunday.

Wenger confirmed in his press conference on Thursday morning that Mustafi would miss around 4-6 weeks, which wasn't as bad as first feared, but still means that it is unlikely that he will feature in any of Arsenal's games before the next worldwide break.

The worldwide break is over Premier League is back with Arsenal set to travel across London to take on Watford on Saturday.

'I didn't expect him to play and Germany had already qualified.

Now 32, Koscielny is one of the most experienced players in Arsene Wenger's squad, too.

However, Wenger could be boosted by the return of Laurent Koscielny ahead of the trip to Watford on Saturday. At the moment he is not available.

Alexis Sanchez will be assessed when he returns to London Colney tomorrow following his exploits with Chile but he should be okay to keep his place in the side.

"The minor problem we have with Sead Kolasnic, we'll check him today, it's a hip problem", Wenger said on Thursday. "I am more concerned that yesterday afternoon I watched the whole game Brazil against Chile to see how hard the game was and I must say he got some special treatment in this game". But he trained on his own and the first signs are positive.

Attack: Mesut Ozil is back in contention after recovering from a knee injury that's kept him out for the last four games so the German schemer could get a recall in attack this weekend. The player looks happy.
