Dodgers advance to NLCS with sweep of Diamondbacks

Dodgers second baseman Logan Forsythe scores on a wild pitch by DBacks pitcher Robbie Ray

The Dodgers, better in every facet of the game, dispatched the Diamondbacks with a 3-1 win Monday night in Game 3, behind five solid innings from Yu Darvish, solo homers by Cody Bellinger and Austin Barnes and four innings of exquisite bullpen work, and will head back to L.A.to await the victor of the Chicago Cubs-Washington Nationals series, whom they will host in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series on Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

First #postseason homer for @Cody_Bellinger?

In the National League Division Series (NLDS) the Chicago Cubs are facing the Washington Nationals and the Diamondbacks are facing the Dodgers.

"I don't think they're uptight, I just think we're a little frustrated because we haven't been playing Arizona Diamondbacks baseball", said Arizona manager Torey Luvullo before the game. He broke his right middle finger in July, but plans to play in an instructional league game Saturday.

Kendrick Lamar could have done the play-by-play in the top of the fifth as Bellinger's "left stroke just went viral!' when he crushed an 87MPH changeup from Greinke to opposite field for his first career postseason home run".

In came Kenley Jansen, looking to end the series, the Dodgers closer started the inning off by striking out Grégor Blanco.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have marched into the National League Championship Series twice before during their current five-season postseason streak, but never with such quiet intensity and blunt force. Bellinger went 2-4 on the night with a home run and two runs batted in. The Dodgers will host the victor of the Cubs vs Nationals series in which the Cubs now lead 2-1 after a win on Monday. In these three games against the Diamondbacks, they did. He dialed his four-seam fastball as high as 97.8 miles per hour, averaging 95.2 and generating 11 strikes from among the 14 he threw, three of them swings and misses.

The Dodgers took the early lead in the first inning after Chris Taylor set the tone with a leadoff double. His ERA is a full run better at Wrigley Field than on the road (2.90 versus 3.87). Greinke needed 29 pitches to complete the first inning thanks to a 10-pitch plate appearance by Yasiel Puig.

Ray escaped trouble in the third inning, despite continuing with his control issues.

D-Backs starter Zack Greinke didn't have his best stuff and that was apparent right out of the gate.

From there Greinke walked a batter in the following three innings. Tuesday night's effort from Zack Greinke was the longest outing for the Snakes with five innings.

"They wait for pitches to hit and then it's an ideal way of hitting", Greinke said. Cingrani was backed by Brandon Morrow who toss 1 and 1 1/3 scoreless innings while facing the heart of the Dbacks lineup in the bottom of the 7th. "We were relentless every single pitch".
