Olivier Giroud Confirms He Almost Joined Everton

Olivier Giroud has one Premier League goal this season from all his substitute appearances

Lookman made eight appearances in the Premier League last season but wasn't able to nail down a spot in Koeman's squad and regularly shifted between the first team and Everton's Premier League Two title-winning under-23's squad.

Should that bid fail then Olivier Giroud may be used as bait in any follow-up offer, after Everton failed to sign the France global during the summer.

Giroud, 31, was widely linked with a move to Goodison Park all summer as Ronald Koeman searched for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku after he joined Manchester United.

But the Frenchman ultimately opted to remain in London - a decision which he now maintains he is happy to have made.

Speaking in an interview with French TV station Canal Plus today, Giroud was questioned on the speculation surrounding his future during the summer, revealing that he was in fact close to a move to the Toffees.

Giroud's situation at Arsenal has not changed from last season and he now finds himself behind Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez in the pecking order. "But I think I made the best choice".

"I have a lot of respect for Marseille, I was a fan for years", Giroud said.

Everton and Arsenal face each other in the Premier League on October 22.

'I also have a lot of respect for Lyon, who were also interested at one time. As per the provided Sun link, Everton would be reluctant to sell him but an offer worth 15 million pounds ($20million) could be very tempting for the Merseysiders.

Lookman was part of the successful England side which won the Under-20 World Cup in the summer, scoring three goals on the team's run to the final which he played from the start. I didn't want to return to France.
