Apple TV 4K launched

Apple just announced a new Apple TV that will stream video in ultra-sharp 4K resolution

Cue says Apple has been working with movie companies to bring their 4K content to iTunes. In the product demo, the TV's output looked pretty incredible.

The set-top box is a central part of Apple's strategy, but the company's aiming for much more than a slot underneath your TV.

Apple itself has also been creating its own shows like "Planet of the Apps".

Troughton-Smith found a code line labeled "NetworkNo4KForYou" and noted in a Tweet earlier this week: "Apple's 4K streaming on the upcoming 4K Apple TV requires a 15Mbps connection".

Preorders begin this Friday, and the new Apple TV 4K will be available on September 22, 2017.

The 4k content will be pricey though. There's a bigger jump from the darkest shadows to the brightest highlights, which makes for a more realistic, convincing picture performance.

The just announced Apple TV 4K will feature full native 4k playback in addition to HDR support with the latest HDR10 standard baked in. That's a superior version of HDR, which uses dynamic metadata. The HDR mode has been enhanced by HDR 10 as well as Dolby Vision technology.

Apple will also partner That Gaming Company to introduce anew game that works with 4K HDR, called Sky.

Apple has negotiated with all the major studios to offer their 4K movies at the same price as HD.

With the new Apple TV, when you buy any HD content from iTunes, Apple will upgrade it to 4K for you without any additional cost.

Like with the existing Apple TV, the Apple TV 4K comes with a voice remote that has a touch panel at the top.

With a six-core A10X Fusion processor split between apps and background processes, the new Apple TV has the same amount of power as iPad Pro.

It's been rumoured, but not confirmed, that there is 3GB RAM on board.

The Apple TV 4K will sell for $179 for a 32-GB capacity version and $199 for a 64 GB model.

Connections include an HDMI 2.0a port, Gigabit Ethernet and an IR receiver. Compatibility with Siri also means Apple Homekit integration. Twice as fast as the Apple TV 4, graphics are four times faster. The older generation Apple TV will also remain on sale with a price tag of $150 with 32GB inbuilt storage.
