Coates had 21 catches for 435 yards and two touchdowns in 2016 at at 6-4, 210 pounds he presents matchup problems for many defensive backs.

Coates, a third-round pick in the 2015 draft, posted two catches for 14 yards over the final 11 games of last season.

Tight end David Johnson, cornerback Senquez Golson and sixth-round draft pick Colin Holba were among the players cut by the Steelers on Saturday as they got down to the 53-man roster. When he reported for the Steelers' training camp on July 29, Pittsburgh put him on the physically-unable-to-perform list. He also broke a finger and ripped a gash in his left hand that required seven stitches.

After limited opportunities as a rookie playing behind Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant Coates started five games as a sophomore. He has 22 receptions for 446 yards and two touchdowns and has also averaged 25.0 yards per kickoff return in his career.

Coates has been a bitter disappointment thus far in Pittsburgh.

Coates' knee surgery was his second of the offseason.

Well, everyone has been wondering all summer what the value of Sammie Coates is on the Steelers, and today we have learned.
