Arsene Wenger Praises Match-Winner Olivier Giroud

Alexis Sanchez

Sanchez started a large number of Arsenal's games last season as the main striker but new boy Lacazette, a club-record signing from Lyon last month, is an out-and-out No 9.

The event which got people talking was undoubtably the goal scored by Gunners' new recruit Alexandre Lacazette who managed to find the net during his top flight debut in under two minutes, which installed great promise for the upcoming season.

With 65 minutes on the clock Wenger turned to Ramsey and Giroud, the former almost making an instant impact by narrowly missing the target when getting on the end of a left-sided cross.

There were plenty of reasons to say we are going to win it all and plenty of reasons to say that we are doomed to a mid-table finish, but in the end, there are some important things to remember, and we will get to that later.

Neville is fully aware of the ability of Lacazette following his spell as Valencia manager and believes his arrival could frustrate Sanchez further.

"However, it's the Man City situation that's the concern and we've seen it all before with Robin van Persie's move to Manchester United".

But Wenger said he had not heard from PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and referred to French media reports suggesting PSG are more interested in signing Monaco's Kylian Mbappe. We want him to be a nuisance.

"I can't tell you that at the moment", he said.

The competition for forward roles in the starting XI is at its hottest for several years. "He's an intelligent player". So Jose Mourihno has strengthened in the areas he's needed to and they look stronger and will challenge for the title. "We kept going and the spirit of the team was absolutely outstanding", he said.

"That's a nice start but obviously I prefer to be on the pitch. Giroud in his prime is at the top of his game".

Against a plucky Leicester side at a packed and tense Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger's men scored twice in the last 10 minutes - first through substitute Aaron Ramsey before the much-maligned Giroud headed in the winner off Granit Xhaka's corner.
