Ezekiel Elliot's suspension includes 49ers game

Elliott led the NFL in total rushing yards for the 2016 season

The Broncos may not have to face star running back Ezekiel Elliott when they play the Cowboys in Week 2 this National Football League season. In a worst-case scenario for the Cowboys, Elliott could be suspended for the playoffs if the hearing occurs later in the season and the suspension is upheld. "Mr. Elliott and his team of representatives are extremely disappointed with the NFL's decision", said attorneys Frank Salzano and Scott Rosenblum in a joint statement.

That leaves Rod Smith at tailback and Keith Smith, who primarily works at fullback, to handle significant snaps in practice and receive the bulk of the load in those early preseason games. If his suspension is upheld before the regular season starts, he'd be added to the Cowboys' roster on Monday, Oct. 23, after Dallas' game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Robert S. Tobias, principal assistant city attorney in Columbus, stated in an email to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero a year ago he believed "there were a series of interactions between Mr. Elliott and [his accuser] where violence occurred", per the NFL's official website. Elliott wasn't arrested, and the case was not forwarded to prosecutors for review.

"I approach every day like I'm the starter because you never know what's going to happen on any given day", Morris said.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had expressed frustration that the league's investigation, which began before Elliott played of his stellar rookie season, dragged on so long and expressed belief his young star would not be penalized.

Elliott, 22, has denied the domestic violence accusations. And in July, he was involved in an altercation at a Dallas nightclub during which a DJ's nose was broken.

Either way, for the first six games of the season, barring appeal, Elliot will sit in key games versus the New York Giants, Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers. In March of this year, Elliott was filmed pulling down a woman's shirt and exposing her breast at a St. Patrick's Day parade.
