Actress Cate Blanchett is attached to play Lucille Ball in the film, which has been stuck in development hell for several years. The show was the first to ever feature an interracial couple - Ball's sitcom husband, Ricky Ricardo, who was played by her real-life Cuban spouse - and was also the first to use a three-camera setup which later became standard for many subsequent sitcoms.

Are you guys excited for Lucy and Desi? The couple met when Lucy was 28 and Desi was 23 while they were both working on set of the 1940 film Too Many Girls.

Cate recently appeared in the Dan Rather biopic Truth and her latest movie credits include roles within Cinderella and Carol. Unlike their competitor, Netflix, Amazon Studios does release their films in theaters before bringing them to their streaming service, so look for the new movie to appear on the big screen in either 2018 or 2019. It's hoped that a star on par with the Academy Award-winning Blanchett will sign on, with sources reporting Javier Bardem is being considered.

The script has been written by Aaron Sorkin, who also wrote the scripts for The Social Network, Moneyball and Steve Jobs.

Lucy and Desi's children, Lucie Luckinbill and Desi Arnaz Jr will be involved in the project described as, "the authorized telling of the tempestuous love/business relationship between Arnaz and Ball, whose production company launched such series as Star Trek".

Cate is the only big name now attached to star in the new movie, but producers are on the hunt for an actor to portray Desi, and sources tell Deadline.com Javier Bardem could be in the running for the role.
