You Can Finally Play As Every WNBA Team In NBA Live 18

Women's basketball will be featured in a video game for the first time this fall, when Electronic Arts includes WNBA players in NBA Live '18. Now players can play as a man or female as they climb their way to the top in Career mode. In order to incorporate the players, the NBA LIVE 18 team went through a rigorous process.

Available in WNBA Play Now, all teams and player skills have been balanced to "reflect the unique playstyle of the league and skills of its players".

Maya Moore, Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi, Tina Charles, Sylvia Fowles, Alisha Gray, Chelsea Gray, Jonquel Jones, and Alyssa Thomas all helped out with the game, along with the first pick out of the WNBA draft, Kelsey Plum.

This makes it the first video game in history to use WNBA players, publisher EA boasted. They added 12 women's national soccer teams to the game that year and had American Soccer star Alex Morgan share the US regional cover of the game with Lionel Messi. And granted the league isn't very old (2017 is the 20-year anniversary of its founding) and they've been having issues with attendance and TV ratings for some time despite a long-time partnership with ESPN; the latter of which likely played into why the league never got their own game franchise to begin with. They were also available in "FIFA 17". EA is hoping that the Live series becomes good again as they have not been able to match the National Basketball Association 2K series in a long time.

"The WNBA is home to some of the most incredible athletes on the planet, and we've been working hard to integrate them into our game in an authentic and meaningful way", said Sean O'Brien, the executive producer of the "NBA Live" series.
