Man Allegedly Held Girlfriend, 2 Kids Captive for 2 Years

Woman 2 Children Held Captive in Spotsylvania Home for 2 Years

On arrival at the house, Moore came to the door, but according to the police, he was reluctant to let the officers inside the home. While speaking to Moore, a woman and two children ran out of a side door toward the deputies.

Kareim Ali Muhammad Moore's unidentified 32-year-old girlfriend is seriously ill and has been hospitalized since escaping the home with her children on Saturday.

WWBT reports a man was arrested for allegedly holding a woman and her two children captive for at least two years in their Spotsylvania home.

A anxious relative called Spotsylvania police officers after growing concerned because she had not seen either the woman or the children for such a long time, the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star reports. Law enforcement officers now believe the two children had never been permitted to attend school.

Lt. C.A. Carey told the Freelance Star in Fredericksburg that the woman is now hospitalized in serious condition. The kids, who police said have never been to school, also received treatment, and are now with family members.

She said she believed Moore was living alone in the house. The windows of the home were covered with blankets and shades.

Moore is unemployed, a sheriff's spokesperson tells PEOPLE.

8News affiliate WJLA is reporting that 43-year-old Kariem Muhammed Moore has been charged with three felony counts of abduction and felony assault and battery. However, on investigation, it appears the woman and her children were not held in any kind of bondage in the home, so they are unsure how Moore kept the woman captive and prevented her from previously leaving the home.
