Actor Tom Wopat pleads not guilty to indecent assault and battery

The actor who played Luke Duke on "Dukes of Hazzard" was arrested on incident assault and battery charges in Waltham.

As Luke Duke, Tom Wopat was always one step ahead of the law.

Police arrested the 65-year-old actor on a warrant on Wednesday at 10:53 p.m. and also charged him with cocaine possession at the time of the arrest, authorities tell PEOPLE.

The indecent assault and battery is a felony.

"During a rehearsal the defendant allegedly walked behind a female cast member, grabbing her buttocks", they said in an emailed statement. He refused to comment outside court before driving away.

Police were actively looking for Wopat Wednesday night and pulled him over in his Ford Bronco.

Wopat apparently denied the accusations and angrily stormed out, after which police were called.

Wopat was scheduled to appear in a production of "42nd Street" at the Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston, which is based in Waltham. He said he flirts, and likes to be friendly, but "nothing that could be considered inappropriate". Officers said they also found a small amount of cocaine in his possession.

The actor and singer has starred in numerous Broadway productions, receiving Tony nominations for his roles in "Annie, Get Your Gun" and "A Catered Affair".

His movie roles include a USA marshal in the Oscar-winning Django Unchained.
