7 in coaches poll, UW's highest preseason ranking in 20 years

Alabama and Ohio State are the top two teams, respectively. A preseason ranking in the Coaches Poll is a strong indicator of their possibility of keeping the streak alive.

Oklahoma State ended past year ranked 11th after its Alamo Bowl win over Colorado. Led by junior quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Cards' schedule is headlined by early season matchups against Purdue, Clemson and Florida State. Stanford is 14th, and Utah rounds out the rankings at No. 25.

The remaining seven first-place votes went to defending national champion Clemson, but the Tigers will start 2017 at No. 5 overall. The Fighting Irish, coming off a disappointing 4-8 season, received the fourth most points among others receiving votes but will open the campaign outside the Top 25 for the first time since 2010. Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 are Penn State, Washington, Oklahoma, Michigan and Wisconsin. The Seminoles received four first-place votes.

The Gators open the season against No. 9 MI, which finished last season 10-3 and ranked No. 10 by the coaches, on September 2 in Arlington, Texas.

Oklahoma, which opened fall camp Monday, was the preseason pick to win the Big 12 Conference by the media and boasts five players on the 2017 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.
