Mourinho satisfied with United's progress despite Barca loss

United boss Jose Mourinho has hinted Ibrahimovic will be offered a new deal when he proves his fitness but, in the meantime, the shy and retiring 35-year-old was happy to show his rehabilitation was going well by showing off his impressive torso and comparing it to fictional movie character King Kong.

"For me I think it is going well", the Brazil Under-23 global told MUTV.

Lukaku will be expected to fill that void for United when the 2017-18 campaign gets underway, but Mourinho has now suggested he will also have the option of Ibrahimovic once again in six months' time.

"I understand the situation, I understand the market and if my club is not able to do two players and do just one, I will accept that as a outcome of the market now".

"I think in this moment the best players are in these two clubs Barcelona and Madrid and you have to accept that as a reality".

With only Pogba, Herrera, Carrick, Fellaini and Pereira as Mourinho's midfield options, it only highlights United's need to make additions to the squad in the middle of the park. For us to play against both in a pre-season without any kind of pressure was very good for us. We are against fantastic teams, against wonderful investments.

In addition to these three youngsters, the likes of Rashford, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe are all expected to play a prominent role in the upcoming season as United battle on four fronts, included a much anticipated return to the Champions League.

The injury ruled him out of United's last 10 games of the season and brought his one-year stay at Old Trafford to a premature end.

Mourinho was particularly impressed with another solid display from midfielder Paul Pogba, who the Portuguese manager believes is among the best players in the world.

Mourinho has added striker Romelu Lukaku and centre back Victor Lindelof in the current transfer window but is still hoping to sign two more players ahead of the new season.

The likes of Nemanja Matic, Eric Dier, Fabinho and Ivan Perisic have all been linked with the club, but Mourinho remains confident the club's top targets will still sign this summer. Until now they spent zero pounds, right?
