The remarks in Paris during a joint news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron came even though Trump's own Federal Bureau of Investigation pick has said authorities should be advised of requests to meet with foreign individuals during a campaign and even after Donald Trump Jr. said he would rethink his own conduct in agreeing to the meeting in the first place.

Maxine Waters, ranking Democrat on the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, told reporters she had filed a resolution of inquiry demanding the U.S. Treasury Secretary hand over documents in his possession, "relating to President Trump's financial connections to Russian Federation, certain illegal financial schemes, and related information".

"We will expose House Republicans' inaction for their willful, shameful enabling", Pelosi said Friday. Whether the House ever actually makes such a move, however, remains to be seen.

The letter was sent to Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas A. Shannon Jr. ahead of his meetings with Russian officials next week. We have an inside the Congress investigation by the Intelligence Committees.

With some openly talking of impeaching the president, Democrats on key committees joined Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to announce they would sponsor "resolutions of inquiry" seeking information about any Trump business or campaign connections to Russian Federation, data about any enrichment his family or business receive from the government, and the president's personal tax returns.

The Senate passed the Iran and Russian Federation sanctions measure last month but the House parliamentarian ruled that late-added language violated the Origination Clause of the Constitution, creating a so-called blue slip issue.

Trump Jr. himself said in a Fox News interview Tuesday night that "in retrospect I probably would have done things a little differently". "But don't forget: he's for China, I'm for the U.S.". "You always have to understand the other side".

"It's like this narrow road that about a quarter of an inch wide. I then said to him, in a totally different way, 'Were you involved with the meddling?' He said, 'I was not - absolutely not'". "But I think we're going to have something that's really good and that people are going to like".

"Look, there's no better place for solar than the Mexico border - the southern border".

She said that Democrats actually come out of this looking badly, particularly former President Obama.

"You'll need anywhere from 700 to 900 miles", he said. "But we have some incredible designs..."

Trump also offered a very different description of the border barrier than he portrayed in campaign rallies, where he would sometimes talk about a wall 30 feet high.
