Disney Announces The Lead Actors For Guy Ritchie's Live-Action Aladdin


Mena Massoud will play Aladdin in Disney's live-action film. Guy Ritchie is directing the film which will give the Disney animated classic a live-action, musical update.

The D23 Expo is always a host of new and exciting Disney news of what's to come and details on projects we already knew about. In addition to their roles being announced, it was confirmed that Will Smith would be taking over the role of the Genie as well.

Scott, meanwhile, made her blockbuster debut earlier this year as the Pink Ranger in March's Power Rangers. Massoud is a relative newcomer to Hollywood with only a few credits to his name.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Mena Massoud is a Canadian actor and now appears on the new Amazon series Jack Ryan He also starred in the TV series Open Heart and Saving Hope.

Dan Lin is producing Aladdin through his company Lin Pictures, and Jonathan Eirich has been named executive producer.

Following the adventures of the street rat, the story is based on a Middle Eastern folk tale of Aladdin who is granted three wishes by a genie who is captive inside a magic lamp.

Aladdin is now set to start shooting in August.
