Despite donning Nikes, Lonzo not in talks with shoe company

Lonzo Ball turns heads by sporting Nike sneakers during a Summer League game Thursday. And he did it in Nikes.

The 19-year-old's choice of kicks flooded social media and drew the attention of LeBron James.

While many fans just watched the game to get a view of Ball, James might have had other reasons for his presence. If Ball and his teammates perform as they did tonight, they will be very hard to beat. He wore them throughout the contest, posting totals of 36 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds in the 103-102 victory. Check out the Instagram video he posted last night.

Lonzo Ball is on the court warming up, but not wearing his signature BBB shoe.

"Lonzo is not forced to wear any brand and can play in any shoe he wants as long as it's OK with the NBA", LaVar Ball told ESPN.

Ball wasn't exactly on fire from downtown in this game, going three of 10 from beyond the arc against Philadelphia, but he shot 12 of 22 overall and nine of 12 from the foul line.

Simmons even gave a nod to Ball's performance on Twitter, despite an ongoing conflict between his teammate Joel Embiid and the rookie's father, LaVar Ball.

The Sixers will have another chance to compete in the consolation round on Friday, but for now, the Lakers will advance to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Upon Big Baller's release this past May, Lonzo's $495 shoes elicited plenty of shots at the brand from around the National Basketball Association, with everyone from Shaquille O'Neal to Warriors coach Mike Brown weighing in on the ridiculousness of a rookie charging hundreds for an untested shoe from an unproven company.

Justin Robinson made a go-ahead jumper with 11 seconds remaining to send No. 12 Miami into a second-round matchup with the unbeaten and fifth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers.
