Home Run Derby showdown between Stanton, Judge, and 6 others

Sports Minute: Here is the latest Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota sports news from The Associated Press

Major League Baseball has announced the 2017 Home Run Derby bracket.

All eyes are going to be on massive Yankees rookie outfielder Aaron Judge, who is the -275 Sports Interaction betting odds favourite to win AL MVP.

The 2017 MLB Home Run Derby will be held on the first day of All-Star Game festivities on Monday, July 10 at 8 p.m. ET at Marlins Park.

Others scheduled to appear in tonight's Home Run Derby include Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers, Mike Moustakas of the Royals, Miguel Sano of the Twins, Charlie Blackmon of the Rockies, Justin Bour of the Marlins, and Gary Sanchez of the Yankees.

Bellinger's first-round opponent is Colorado's Charlie Blackmon (+2000), who has the unenviable task of potentially needing to go through all three of Bellinger, Judge and Stanton to win the derby.

The veteran slugger packs substantial power and might be worth taking a chance on if you think that Stanton and Judge might falter.

The defending champion and hometown favourite is Miami's Giancarlo Stanton.

This time around Giancarlo was selected as an All-Star reserve, entering the break with 26 home runs and 58 RBIs while slashing.277/.357/.542.

Major League Baseball saw its annual All-Star Week kick off over the weekend with a variety of entertaining events.

The first round will see Stanton face New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez.

In each round, each player will receive four minutes in which to hit as many home runs as possible.

Moose, as he's affectionately called in Kansas City, has grown into a pull happy hitter over the last year with 24 of his 25 home runs flying over the right field fence this year.

He traveled out west last summer just to take swings in the Home Run Derby, which turned out to be a pretty good move. The victor of this head-to-head matchup will go on to face the victor of the Stanton vs. Sanchez matchup in the second round.

Sano already has nearly matched last year's season total of 25 home runs. It does help to have some experience in this competition. He will meet Gary Sanchez in the opening round of this year's derby.
