Cris Cyborg Calls Tonya Evinger Bout 'More Exciting' Than Megan Anderson Fight

Tonya Evinger

Megan Anderson has been forced to withdraw from her upcoming UFC featherweight title fight against Cris "Cyborg" Justino at UFC 214 at Honda Center because of "personal issues", the organization said Tuesday.

"I have been wanting this fight for a long time and finally got the opportunity to showcase my skills on the big stage, but unfortunately due to some pressing persinal reasons that are out of my control, it is not to be right now", Anderson said.

Megan Anderson's campaign for a UFC title shot against Cris Cyborg has come to a halt. The Brazilian star's overall record now stands at 17-1 with one no contest. Coincidentally enough, Evinger was scheduled to replace Anderson at Invicta FC 24 and now she will replace her again with even bigger stakes.

Evinger, meanwhile, enters the match-up riding an 11-fight unbeaten streak of her own, including two defenses of the Invicta bantamweight championship. She is considered one of the most risky female fighters in MMA today.

De Randamie refused to fight Cyborg which prompted the UFC to draft in Anderson from Invicta.

The promotion crowned Germaine de Randamie its first 145-pound female champion in February, after she defeated former bantamweight titleholder Holly Holm via decision. UFC 214 takes place on July 29th from Anaheim, California. Cyborg on the other hand has finished all but one fight via strikes since making her professional debut back in 2005.

UFC 214 is headlined by UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones in what will settle the score for the light heavyweight division once and for all.

She's fought twice in the UFC at 140 pounds and earned TKO victories in both outings, a first round victory over Leslie Smith and a second round triumph over Lina Lansberg.
