592-hp Jaguar XE SV Project 8: Meet Jag's monster sports sedan

Auto geeks around the globe had welcomed it with much gaiety when Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) finally announced its plans to take the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 to the production line.

AUSTRALIA is set to fill the biggest loser role in Jaguar's Project 8 story, after it was today revealed the 300 Project 8 cars to be built in the United Kingdom will all be left-hand-drive only.

At its heart is the most powerful engine the company has ever fitted to a road auto: a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 with the best part of 600bhp that is enough to get the vehicle to 60mph in just 3.3 seconds and on to a maximum speed of 200mph. Jaguar claims a 0-60 miles per hour time of 3.3 seconds, making it the brand's fastest accelerating model to date, and a 200 miles per hour top speed. An incredible 75 percent of Project 8 is said to be new compared with existing XEs (including the V8 engine, which hasn't yet found its way into other variants). With 250 kW (335 hp) from a supercharged V6 and a lively rear-driven chassis, it's all the sedan anyone could ever really need.

Up front, there's double-wishbone suspension, with Integral Link at the rear.

Project 8's carbon ceramic brakes are another first for Jaguar.

Jaguar will offer two versions of the XE SV Project 8 - a four-seater and a two-seat Track Pack equipped with racing seats and harnesses. The already lightweight aluminum structure of the vehicle has in part been replaced by carbon fiber body parts with enhanced cooling ducts, a vented carbon fiber bonnet, flared bodywork covering the 20-inch forged aluminium alloy wheels, an adjustable front splitter, a flat underbody, a rear carbon fiber bumper, rear diffuser and adjustable aerodynamic wing.

Inside the XE SV Project 8 is a little more restrained, but not by much. Paired exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the engine channels power reserves to all four wheels. The adjustable front splitter, front and rear bumper, bonnet, rear diffuser and front wings are all produced in an autoclave, with the doors and roof stamped from aluminium (although USA and Canada bound Project 8s will have a Panoramic roof fitted). The model is also equipped with a new carbon ceramic braking system, Formula 1-style silicon nitride ceramic wheel bearings, and a rear Electronic Active Differential (EAD) with oil cooler. The Project 8 is also the first Jaguar to feature a dedicated Track Mode, which alters the driveline and stability control systems for circuit use. It has all-wheel drive, will do 200mph and is optionally available with a 'cage and half as many seats as it has doors. Track Pack cars are 12.2kg lighter, and get a gloss black roof and twin-stripe decals.

THE most powerful, agile and extreme performance road auto ever produced by Jaguar, the 200mph XE SV Project 8 sedan, has been revealed by the brand. Jaguar hasn't revealed local pricing but elsewhere the vehicle will start at approximately $192,000.
