After 'unfit' remark on Rahul Gandhi, Cong expels Barkha Singh

Charging the Congress vice president with not meeting party leaders Barkha Singh says Rahul Gandhi is ‘reluctant’ to address ‘issues’ within the party organisation

A day after Barkha Shukla Singh submitted her resignation from Delhi Congress women's wing chief, the party expelled her from the party for six years.

Two days after former Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely and the president of the Delhi Youth Congress quit the grand old party alleging unfair distribution of tickets, the party faced another shocker on Thursday with president of the Delhi Mahila Congress Barkha Singh stepping down from her post.

"Disciplinary Committee of the DPCC in its meeting has unanimously made a decision to expel Barkha Singh for period of six years from the party for undertaking anti-party activities just before the MCD elections", a party statement said.

Barkha Shukla Singh, who described herself as a "The loyal soldier of the Congress" has just been expelled from the party. The politician, who headed the Delhi Women's Commission when Sheila Dikshit was the chief minister of the state, had also said that Gandhi was only interested in meeting sycophants.

She charged Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi with not meeting party leaders and was reluctant to address issues within the party organisation.

Singh also alleged that senior leader Ajay Maken had misbehaved with her. "But in the current organisation where I myself feel unsafe, how will I empower women in it? Several senior leaders have quit the party because of this very reason - his reluctance over addressing issues that exist within the organisation", she said.

"The one pertinent question we need to ask is why is Rahul Gandhi hiding?" "The same night, he was partying at Shangri La hotel", she said at a press conference, flashing a purported video of Rahul inside the hotel", Singh had said. She also hit out at vice-president Rahul Gandhi and the party's Delhi unit chief Ajay Maken.

"Why is he (Rahul) scared of meeting his own party members? When the same was brought to the notice of Rahul, our plea fell on deaf ears". "But when we complain of Ajay Maken abusing and threatening us, we are told to take the matter up with Maken", she said.
