Red Sox DH Ramirez limps off with leg injury

For a series marred by strikeouts, Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel retired the Rays in order with three to end the game.

After Moreland's big hit in the seventh, Ramirez pulled up limping while rounding second and was replaced by Steve Selsky.

"It's worth the price of admission just to see him", manager John Farrell said.

Indians 13, Tigers 6: Jose Ramirez was 4-for-4 with a pair of three-run homers for Cleveland, and Detroit ace Justin Verlander matched a career high by allowing nine runs.

Another error sparked a three-run outburst for the Red Sox as Miller dropped an easy toss for what would have been the inning-ending out at second base in the Boston second.

The Red Sox wore white home jerseys with "Boston" across the front instead of "Red Sox".

Wakefield, who now works with NESN, won 186 games with the Red Sox from 1995-2011.

The bullpen responded nicely, led by Joe Kelly (2-0), who picked up the victory. Moreland drove an 0-1 cutter for an opposite-field single to left, plating two.

He got the next batter to strike swinging on curveball before Taylor took over.

Wright's first stint in the majors wasn't long.

"I'm more concerned just that we didn't perform like we need to perform when we go on road trips", Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash said. This year, knuckleballer Steven Wright gets the start for the home team.

"Just didn't catch the ball and it ended up costing us three runs and ended up being the difference in the game", Miller said. But turning two wouldn't be an option after second baseman Brad Miller fanned on the seventh offering from reliever Robbie Ross Jr. "So you go in and kind of bounce some things off of him", he said.

Rays: RHP Jake Odorizzi went on the 10-day DL, a day after he strained his left hamstring.

Right-hander Chase Whitley was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Sunday.

Another reason that play was so damaging is because second year pitcher Blake Snell needs to get wins and some positive results to boost his confidence.

Despite the attention and anniversaries that come with the game, Wright said he'll try not to think about them.

RED SOX KEY TRENDS: The Red Sox have fared well against American League East rivals, winning 15 of their last 22 games against the division. "I just didn't have it today". He gave up 2 runs, one earned, though Marco Hernandez's fielding error was hardly an excuse for Wright, who was terrible through the second inning but managed to settle down somewhat after that.

Snell (0-1, 3.18 ERA) held the New York Yankees to two runs on two hits with three walks and a strikeout in a 4 2/3-inning no-decision last Wednesday, an eventual 8-4 loss at Yankee Stadium.
