As Chelsea wobble, can Spurs surge to Premier League title?

While, Chelsea's lead at the start of April was 10 points, two defeats in four league matches has seen Spurs - who have won seven straight top-flight games - eat into that advantage.

Add in Conte's reminder of how this season should be seen in the context of Chelsea's poor campaign a year ago and the impression is left of a manager trying to lower expectations just when they are at their highest.

Antonio Conte has not had to deal with defeat often in an outstanding first season as Chelsea manager - and none carrying the significance of the loss at Manchester United.

Goals by Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera sank Chelsea and, with six games left for the top two, there is little room for any more slip-ups by Antonio Conte's side who a few weeks ago looked like they were running away with the title.

This prompted a reshuffle in the back 5, and just as when Victor Moses missed the Crystal Palace game through injury, shifting the delicately balanced defensive structure proved costly.

Conte accepted that his team "deserved" to lose and said the outcome of the match was his fault for failing to sufficiently motivate his players.

"Yeah we are capable", he said.

"We have one month to go, it's many games we play", Ibrahimovic said in quotes reported by the Daily Telegraph ahead of Sunday's clash with Chelsea.

"It's [my fault], because in this case I wasn't able to spur the right desire or motivation to play this kind of game".

The centre-back refuses to panic just yet, though, and wants Chelsea to show what they are made of in this weekend's FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham. I prefer to fight for the title and have the pressure rather than not fighting for the title and staying calm.

"The satisfaction is for different reasons", said Mourinho, whose side take a 1-1 scoreline into the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final at home to Anderlecht on Thursday. The league is open.

"But today I think was a special performance because it's also a special opponent - the leaders, the way they play". We controlled them totally and I am really happy. "For a young referee to come up I think is a joy, because we all know that the top referees in the Premier League are normally men with great experience and Madley had for me a very, very good performance".

"Diego is very unsafe but the two link positions are the two positions we have to control".
