Police say gunman had just been fired from fitness center

Anais Michelle said she was walking into the mall with her mother when she saw people coming down from the third level, some crying about a shooting at the gym. His targets were two of Wilson's former coworkers at the fitness center; general manager Janine Ackerman and fitness manager Marios Hortis.

Ironically, Wilson was initially let go from his position at the gym for "workplace violence", however, the details of the incident that led to his termination have not been revealed. "He then returned to the fitness center armed with a hand gun and shot the general manager, Janine Ackerman, multiple times".

One person is dead, and two others are injured after a shooting inside the Equinox Gym at the Village of Merrick Park Saturday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by this awful tragedy.

Equinox employees got members out of the gym after the shooting, according to a report from NBC Miami TV 6, quoting Javy Rodrigues, a member at the club.

Janine Ackerman, 35, who is from Monroeville in South Jersey, was killed by a personal trainer who was sacked from his job at the Equinox fitness center in Coral Gables, according to the Miami Herald.

An Equinox spokesperson said that Ackerman was a "kind and caring soul" and that she was loved and will be deeply missed. Wilson ultimately turned the gun on himself and committed suicide on Saturday, April 8.

A police spokesman confirmed Hortis's death Sunday afternoon.

"He wasn't clean-shaven. and he seemed to be slurring his words", said Sarnoff.

Police have only said that he was sacked Saturday due to "workplace violence". The personal trainer worked low-level hourly jobs at Florida hotels before working her way up to become the VIP services supervisor at the upscale Fontainebleau resort in Miami.

Miami-Dade police are investigating the shooting.

On Sunday, Equinox dispatched grief counselors to the Biltmore Hotel about two miles from the gym, and encouraged both employees and clients to visit them.
