The labor force in the county increased to 30,389 from 30,076 for the month, and the total number of those with jobs went up as well - from 28,522 to 28,823.

The jobless rates in the north country went up in February compared to a year ago at the same time.

Indiana's labor force rose by 7,912 over the previous month with a 6,394 increase in employment and a 1,518 increase in unemployment. Monthly gains outpaced seasonal expectations as the county typically only adds around 200 jobs from January to February.

Noble County saw the greatest decrease, from 4.2 percent to 4 percent.

Chicopee: 5.4 percent, up from 5.1 percent in January but down from 6.1 percent in February 2016.

Unemployed: There were 4,660 unemployed people in February 2017, up from 4,477 in January.

"Discouraged workers" are not now looking for work for several reasons, including their belief that no job is available to them in their line or in their area. The number of unemployed is estimated using a survey of households.
