University of Tennessee grad programs among best in US News rankings

The University has received additional value and excellence citations from the Brookings Institute, U.S. News and World Report, The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education, and The New York Times.

Also worth noting: Northwestern University's Pritzker School of Law and Duke University broke into this year's top 10, tying for no. 10.

In the law school rankings, Seton Hall University was the top New Jersey institution to make the leaderboard, finishing in a tie for No. 57 nationwide.

Texas A&M joins other Texas law schools in the top 100.

Baylor Law School moved up four places to No. 51 in the magazine's "Top Schools" listing for 2018.

For the U.S. News rankings of graduate education programs, 379 schools granting doctoral degrees were surveyed in fall 2016 and early 2017.

The 30-spot leap is the biggest jump among law schools this year and one of the largest ever on the U.S. News law school list, Rutgers officials said.

Within specialty areas, history's African-American section ranked second, while political science's Political Theory ranked sixth, as did its American Politics program.

The Wake Forest University School of Business offers undergraduate programs in accounting, business and enterprise management, finance, and mathematical business. Based on responses, both the master's and DNP rankings are based on a weighted average of 14 measures of quality, including peer assessment, master's and DNP program student selectivity and master's and DNP program size, faculty resources and research activity.

Emory and Georgia Tech's joint Department of Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. program ranked 3rd in the nation.

As the top ranking was announced previous year, Kathleen Matt, dean of the College of Health Sciences, said, "This recognition by U.S. News and World Report confirms what our students, alumni, faculty and staff and patients have known for some time".

Curry also saw five of its programs ranked in the top 10 nationally: special education at No. 4, elementary education (No. 6), secondary education (No. 9), administration and supervision (No. 10) and education policy (tied for No. 10). It is the 8th consecutive year the School of Business MBA program has been #1 in the state. Indiana Tech Law School, which has provisional accreditation but has announced plans to close in June, was not included in the rankings.

This year's full-time MBA students are the first cohort in W. P. Carey's Forward Focus MBA - an initiative to draw highly qualified students who might not otherwise seek an advanced degree, such as entrepreneurs and non-profit leaders.
