Singer's Controversial 'Trump' Grammy's Dress is Designed By a Filipino Immigrant

Singer/songwriter Joy Villa arrived at Sunday night's Grammy Awards with a political objective.

Villa saw her sales of her music skyrocket at least 18 million percent in one day after she posed on the red carpet in her eye-popping Trump dress, WND reported Monday.

Joy Villa wears a gown that says "Make America Great Again" at the 59th annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, in Los Angeles.

Villa's look read "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN" down the bodice and featured red stripes and white stars.

Villa received both supportive and anti-Trump responses to the dress via Twitter.

Villa first showed up at the event in a white caped gown that hid her dress underneath, The Daily Mail reports. The collection of tunes also leapt to No. 7 on iTunes' top album chart, according to Fox News. She captioned the pic, "Sometimes you just gotta be free to express yourself. thank you to all of my supporters and fellow believers". As had happened prior to Donald Trump's inauguration as USA president, few musicians seemed to be on Trump's side. In the days leading up to the Grammy Awards, the 2014 album sold a negligible amount of copies.

"Go big, or go home", Ms. Villa wrote on Twitter after her Grammys appearance. She did however re-tweet a handful of posts praising her and referring to her as a Trump supporter after the Grammys.

The dress' designer, Andre Soriano, said on Instagram the gown is a "tribute [to] OUR President Of The United States Of America" adding the hashtag #MAGA.

"I'm like, 'Joy, We have to make a statement on what is right for our country, of what we believe in, for the Constitution, ' " said Soriano.

When Soriano was asked about his political beliefs, he responded by saying that he is a proud American and stated that he believes that he is an example of the American dream. She is one of the people on this planet that really promotes love. I am a minority, Joy is black. She's also in the number one spot on Amazon Music as well.
