New Orleans Police say shooting leaves 1 dead, 9 injured

Two arrests have been made in connection with the shooting of 10 people - including one who died - in New Orleans' French Quarter early Sunday morning, police said.

The shooting victims ranged in ages from 20 to 37, New Orleans police said.

One was wounded in the shooting, police say the other suspect was not involved in the shooting.

"This was not the place or time to bring firearms to the Bayou Classic or any event", said Police Superintendent Michael Harrison, according to CNN affiliate WVUE.

Detectives are still investigating what caused the shooting to occur in the heart of New Orleans's main tourist attraction. One man died at a hospital. Police arrested two people, both of whom were in possession of a firearm.

"We believe they ran into each other in the street and an argument ensued at that time that stemmed from an argument that they had already had from another place", Harrison said.

There was heavy police presence in the area because of Bayou Classic weekend, Harrison said. "We're going to pursue these individuals very, very aggressively", Landrieu said.

NOPD officers have arrested 11 people in the past 48 hours for illegally carrying weapons in NOPD's Eighth District, consisting mostly of the French Quarter.

Photographer Chris Granger took 360-degree views of the crime scene at the 100 block of Bourbon, between Canal and Iberville streets.

"It's totally unacceptable", Landrieu said. "It's just a tragic end to what was otherwise a handsome weekend".
