Suspect charged in mother's fatal shooting at birthday party

Police raced to the home in Dyersburg at about 6.20pm local time after receiving reports of a shooting, according to WMCA.

DPD identified the other victims as 22-year-old Latonia Hunt, 37-year-old Mazie Jacobs, 23-year-old Charles Jackson, 32-year-old Diley McVay, and a 12-year-old boy.

Officials were not immediately available for comment. Multiple gunmen opened fire and then fled on foot. DPD said there are no other suspects in the shooting.

"Right after people were scattering and running and it was pretty much just hysterical", Childress said.

Police have not yet identified the woman who died in the shooting in Dyersburg, Tenn., a city of almost 17,000 about 79 miles northeast of Memphis. "When you have children involved, it's disturbing", he said.

According to neighbors, the woman that was killed is the mother of the 2-year-old. "That's something that should be upsetting to us all".

About an hour and a half before the shooting, someone called police and told them people were driving around the area and flashing guns.

Stephanie Childress was sitting down, waiting to cook dinner when she heard two shots.

Torius Saville Russell is charged with first degree murder for Thursday's shooting. The 6-year-old was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, also in Memphis. His bond was set at $2.5 million. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 28.
