Man jumps off highway overpass with two children, dies

Approximately an hour later, at 8:08 p.m., state police were notified that a suicidal man may have jumped off of the Wanaque Bridge with two young boys.

A father jumped from a bridge into the Wanaque River with his two children in his arms, police said.

Two boys are recovering from serious injuries they sustained when their father grabbed them and jumped from a highway bridge into an embankment following a domestic dispute with his wife, New Jersey State Police said.

The 1- and 3-year-old brothers were transported to a hospital where they are expected to make full recoveries, according to WNBC.

"It was nothing short of a miracle", he told ABC News. REACTION " Anyone who does something like this just isn't in their right mind", said Captain Depuyt.

Troopers and local police were dispatched in an attempt to locate them. When troopers and local police arrived on the scene, they found the man's auto on southbound I-287 in Wanaque Township, police said.

Spincken took the children and drove off to Wanaque Passaic County.

The state had installed 10-to-12-foot preventive fencing on both sides after several previous suicide attempts, but Spincken may have used his vehicle to climb over, DePuyt said. The boys, however, miraculously survived the fall and are being treated injuries that aren't considered to be life threatening.

The man drove away with the kids in his SUV as police soon tracked him to the town of Wanaque using his cell phone's Global Positioning System signal.

Police have spoken to Fara Araullo, the children's mother and Mr Spincken's wife, as part of the investigation.

Spincken was found with his boys 100 feet below in the thickly forested area along the Wanaque River.
