Conor McGregor to fight in UFC's New York debut Nov. 12

I firmly believe that should McGregor topple Alvarez and claim the lightweight title, he would be happy enough to vacate the featherweight title having become the first man to hold two belts simultaneously.

The promotion's inaugural card in New York City will be headlined by it's biggest star.

The undefeated Nurmagomedov last fought in April after being sidelined for two years due to injuries.

The rug was swept from beneath McGregor's feet in March when he first aimed to accomplish this feat.

White says he didn't think it was a smart move for McGregor to fight so soon with doctors advising him to take some rest, but the current featherweight champion made a compelling argument that eventually landed him in the main event at UFC 205. This next fight is an opportunity to revisit his two-weight champion desires against Alvarez, who knocked out Dos Anjos in July. It briefly looked as though Alvarez vs. McGregor wouldn't happen at all.

Fans will be hoping he'll engage in stand-up, which would make for an incredible bout and likely favour the Crumlin native. The tough Russian fighter tweeted at Alvarez and McGregor that "your time will come to get my hands on you".

The first fight added yesterday is a welterweight championship fight.

Why was he chosen for the fight?

After all, Conor, 28, has a chance to become the first ever MMA fighter to hold two UFC championships at the same time!

After McGregor avenged that defeat in August, the company had a choice of Diaz, Jose Aldo or Alvarez for his next fight. There are fights going on at featherweight - Aldo bounced back by picking off Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, while youngster Max Holloway has won nine straight since losing to McGregor in 2013.

When will the fight be?

Ronda Rousey won't fight at UFC 205 after some early speculation that she would be on the card. The fight will mark history for the UFC as it is MMA's first trip to NY since a 1997, when a ban on professional mixed martial arts was lifted earlier this year.

His last four fights have been held in Las Vegas meaning a NY date will also afford his fanatical Irish fans a much easier flight across the water.
