Alabama overcomes deficit, outlasts Ole Miss

Coach Hugh Freeze during the Walk of Champions before the Ole Miss v Alabama game Saturday in Oxford. But for at least one game, Saban's squad showed that even when it's not flawless, it can fight and overcome.

No. 1 Alabama scored two defensive touchdowns and another on special teams to overcome a three-touchdown deficit and beat No. 19 MS 48-43 in a Southeastern Conference showdown on Saturday. He made plays when his team needed him, and he took care of the football. I said if you guys really love each other, you'll be able to overcome whatever you have to. Ole Miss was awarded a touchdown on a play that should have been negated by a penalty the refs missed and couldn't overturn. But in the end, Alabama had 334 yards rushing - 146 from Jalen Hurts and another 144 from Damien Harris - and three non-offensive touchdowns to extend its national-best winning streak to 15 games. Instead, they're 1-2 entering another big game against Georgia next week.

In a game that lived up to the Alabama-Ole Miss rivalry the past few years, the Crimson Tide defensive end picked off a tipped pass at the Alabama 24 yard line, and rumbled 76 yards for a pick-six.

Ole Miss kept battling the nation's top-ranked team, as Kelly responded by taking the Rebels down the field for what appeared to be a touchdown to Damore'ea Stringfellow.

Returned the first punt of his career 85 yards for a critical late-second quarter touchdown.

Comeback: Alabama's 21-point deficit is the largest under Saban since his arrival in 2007. Kicker Gary Wunderlich is 4-for-4 on field goals. "They have to do what I've asked them to do to be reinstated".

Remember, I am ranking the teams based on how good I think they are, not necessarily what their win loss record is. After committing 12 against Western Kentucky, the Tide was flagged nine times for 75 yards.

Senior tight end Evan Engram led all receivers with 9 receptions for 138 yards and one touchdown. No. 23 MS is really good at building big leads against some of the best teams in the country but can't hold on to them, losing to No.1 Alabama, 48-43 by blowing a 21-point lead.

"Robert (Foster) will play some, but the guy that's been playing really well for us is Cam Sims, so we would play him as well", Saban said. I'm glad we're in the fight. Hurts led the Tide down to the 1-yard line before Harris scored to make it 41-30 with 7:33 left.

The second ranked University of West Georgia scored 21 unanswered points in a 34-24 victory over visiting Delta State in Saturday's Gulf South Conference opener for both teams. But the Tigers almost squandered a comfortable lead, giving up two touchdowns 4:10 and 3:30 left, the second after the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-1) recovered an onside kick. Ole Miss showed plenty of spirit after succumbing to 45-6 run and, by scoring two touchdowns during the closing stages of the fourth quarter, ensured a frenzied finish at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. "He's obviously a great runner, but all the phases of our offense, whether it's throwing the ball down the field or running the ball, we try to just make plays and try to get our offense going and make things as smooth as possible".

Alabama avoided the knockout punch early and held on late during Saturday's 48-43 win against Ole Miss. Defensively, Alabama football is yielding 19.7 points per game against the opposing team. This was a total team effort all the way around, the kind only champions understand. "We've played a lot of young kids that have to grow up and understand the value of each play in the course of a game".

Following a profitable 4-2 start in our first two weeks of picks for GamingToday, things got away from us last week with the wrong call in all three games to fall to 4-5.
