Portuguese boy provides heartwarming moment of Euro 2016

Portugal win Euro 2016 Ronaldo wins battle of magnificent 7s

Former France global Frank Leboeuf believes Antoine Griezmann should not have been named as Player of the Tournament at Euro 2016.

It was boring and stodgy at times but the record books will only show that Portugal went from third-place in its group to champion, with little help from Ronaldo in its last match.

"It was not the final I wanted, but I am very happy", Ronaldo said. "We have a great captain, it is an honour to play alongside him and have him in the national team and all Portuguese people should be proud to have Cristiano".

France may have dominated possession, but I think it was just a game too far for them.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo said the team's success at Euro 2016 meant they had gone down in the nation's history.

Despite Ronaldo being relegated to the sideline, Portugal wound up winning its first European title thanks to an incredible goal by Eder in the 109th minute. "He gave me strength and positive energy".

Ronaldo twice attempted to continue, but was forced to concede defeat as a knee injury meant he was unable to play on. The disappointment is there, and it's huge, and it will take time to digest it. "It's cruel to lose the final like that". And Lloris was the latest to raise questions about the manner of Portugal's wins. Moussa Sissoko also drove a thundering shot over the bar while substitute Andre-Pierre Gignac hit an extra time shot against the post.

After sweeping past world champions Germany in the semi-finals, the stage was set for Antoine Griezmann and his teammates to lead France to a third major tournament triumph on home soil. We'll have to digest things, but the overriding emotion now is one of sadness.
