WATCH: Gregg Popovich With an Emotional Tribute to Tim Duncan

With Duncan as the focal point, the Spurs won five championships, made the playoffs in all 19 of his seasons and cemented themselves as one of the most successful sports franchises in history.

A Wake Forest graduate, Duncan also played in 15 NBA All-Star games, and is the only player in league history to make the All-Defensive Team 14 times.

Many fun Duncan stats are now being circulated on social media, but here's one that hasn't been shared as much: Duncan scored more points per game against the Milwaukee Bucks than he did against any other team.

Bryant always did things differently, from his much-flashier wardrobe to his much larger bank account last season as the NBA's highest-paid player, which prevented the Lakers from the building options that Duncan's salary afforded the Spurs.

Duncan finished his career with averages of 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 blocks per game.

The only thing more fitting was how that career came to an end Monday: with Duncan retiring via a press release with no quotes, no fanfare, no celebration.

In San Antonio and beyond, Duncan has left an indelible mark on the basketball landscape and will indubitably be a first-ballot Hall of Famer when he's eligible in five years.

There were moments of humor, too, like Popovich saying Duncan made him wear the clothes he gave him — including the shirt he donned Tuesday — or else he wouldnt play.

In his first season San Antonio Spurs fans knew Tim Duncan would be one of the greatest players. But I got really lucky with Dallas and won a championship.

His presence was what allowed Gregg Popovich - now considered one of the greatest coaches of all time - to coach the team the way he wanted.

San Antonio is gaining a brand-new downtown skyscraper. It appeared as if the Spurs head coach was holding back tears. Duncan was never flashy and proved to be a positive role model for thousands of young basketball fans. Just coming second to him was an honor in itself. From newborns to the elderly, the Spurs representation on the backs of the people is almost endless, and it is in such a large part because of you. "Not every talented player can do that".

Gregg Popovich spoke for about 15 minutes, sometimes unable to hide his emotions, all the while wearing a T-shirt that had Tim Duncan's face printed on the front. "But his teammates have and that's why his teammates love him". "But he's why I'm standing", Popovich told reporters.

That substance was good enough to net the Spurs five National Basketball Association championship and give their fans a lifetime of memories.
