Simone Biles returns to Houston after Olympic Trials

Finally, Laurie Hernandez will make her Olympic debut in her first year as a senior gymnast. There's a new Fierce Five set to rule the summer!

Speaking of the Olympics, Caitlyn Jenner recently celebrated the 40-year anniversary of her gold medal win, covered in gold on the cover of Sports Illustrated. At 22 years old, Raisman is the veteran of the side. She made the Olympic team over Ashton Locklear, the 2014 US champion on the event.

After another strong night at the U.S. Olympic Trials where she again finished fourth in the all-around, MyKayla Skinner narrowly missed making the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team.

The decision to include Douglas, 20, could lead to questioning of the three-member selection committee. There was just one automatic qualification spot for the team which went to the top all-around score and there was never a doubt that would belong to Biles. She earned two gold medals in the 2012 games in London: for floor exercise and one as part of the team competition.

USA gymnast Gabby Douglas poses at the Olympic media summit on March 7, 2016 in Los Angeles. But you could make a case that it's more fair than the selection process for the USA Gymnastics Olympic team. But others will wonder if Locklear should have made the top tier even if she herself is thrilled to be a backup. Here she is suspended in the air upside-down during her floor routine.

How she did it: There was no doubt left that Laurie Hernandez belonged on this team.

World championship medalist Maggie Nichols didn't make the team and wasn't named an alternate as she came back from a torn meniscus this spring, and hadn't yet reached the level she did in her breakout season a year ago.

"The way she competes, she's like, 'All right, I got this.' Every single time", Douglas said.

Biles, who hasn't lost in more than three years, posted a two-day total of 123.250. It is an accomplishment she will celebrate, and once her long day was done Sunday, she let down her guard and let the emotions flow. Some former athletes are calling her the best female gymnast of all-time, including former all-around Olympic gold medalist Mary Lou Retton.

Madison Kocian rounds out the team, in a hard-fought win that was well deserved.

Douglas, meanwhile, overcame some less-than-stellar competitions. As an all-rounder, she is expected to make the event finals and make a contribution in all four events.

"There's always tension until you hear your name", said Hernandez, who is a month past her 16th birthday. But the other members are chosen by a selection committee, which takes into account their performance at trials and at worldwide competitions.

Locklear then heard her name as an alternate and her mood brightened drastically, realizing she was going to Rio de Janeiro.

"I do want to be sharper", she said, looking back at her 2012 performance. She finished the weekend in third place on the event behind Kocian and Locklear, the two fighting to be the bars specialist.

The only real drama heading into the final night of trials centered on who would join Biles.

Douglas fell off the balance beam both Friday and Saturday, but her all-around ability was enough for her to compete in her second straight Olympic games.
