Dollars and Pence: Is the Indiana Governor Donald Trump's Pick for VP?

Pence said Trump did not extend an offer to him.

Donald Trump met with Indiana Governor Mike Pence on Wednesday, heightening speculation that Pence could emerge as the Republican presidential candidate's choice for vice presidential running mate.

Trump and Sessions finally left for California around 4 p.m.

In addition to Pence, Trump said Tuesday his other top picks are former house speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey governor Chris Christie. Retired Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn's name recently has been tossed around as well.

"I think he is someone who has connected with everyday Americans like no one since Ronald Reagan", Pence said.

"Not only does he fulfill Trump's requirement for a running mate with political experience, he also is CEO of a company called Indiana", Caputo said.

Although he has yet to make a final decision, in an interview with Fox News' Bret Baier that's set to air Wednesday evening, Trump acknowledged that he's essentially narrowed the field down to two candidates.

Trump spoke to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie over the phone for a conversation that included talk about the vice presidency. "He's a good guy". Kushner and Trump's children have played important roles in the campaign.

Gingrich, who threw his support behind Trump in May, meanwhile, campaigned alongside the billionaire businessman in Cincinnati last week.

But a Trump adviser told the network that Trump hasn't made up his mind yet.

Donald Trump told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that Gov. Reports on Wednesday said Trump's "gut" feeling was to choose Christie, while advisers were leaning toward Pence.

"Trump's gut is Christie", one source said. She would meet the minimum age requirement for vice president when she turns 35 at the end of October.

And if Trump wants someone more conventional, he could turn to Pence. Their governing experience and popularity among the party's conservative base would mark a sharp contrast to Trump, whose brand of politics has alienated hard-line conservatives and establishment Republicans alike. Trump had said Tuesday night at the campaign rally, as thousands of supporters cheered. The Trumps and Pences dined at The Capital Grille, staying past midnight.

Trump tells Fox News channel he's getting closer to his decision.

Perhaps the most significant meeting of the week happened Wednesday morning, when Trump, his children, and the campaign's chairman, Paul Manafort, sat down with Pence and his wife at their home.

On Wednesday afternoon, Pence said he was "humbled to be a part" of the process. "I'm just honored to be on that list". Who would be best in terms of making the case and articulating the case for Donald Trump with a positive voice like you have? "Because Trump has never held office and people are anxious to see how he would assemble a government, this pick might get more attention than usual", said Republican strategist Charlie Black.
