Mercedes will not appeal Rosberg penalty

Kimi Raikkonen finished fifth for Ferrari ahead of Sergio Perez and his Force India teammate Nico Hulkenberg. Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz crossed the flag at eighth position, while Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat completed the top-10 list.

Lewis Hamilton is "unstoppable" in conditions such as those experienced at the British Grand Prix, reckons Mercedes Formula 1 chief Toto Wolff.

He then ran and cavorted in front of them before getting in among the spectators. "It's just insane to think that I'm up there with him", said Hamilton. "I've won four of the last five and I plan to continue". "I saved it for quite a long period of time".

But the Mercedes team posted a series of tweets, including one that attempts to emphasise respect from Rosberg for the man who has reduced his lead in the championship to a single point.

"It was a tricky start in the wet. He did a great job today", Rosberg said.

The British GP started behind the Safety Car thanks to rain coming down rather heavily on track. Hamilton led the way for six laps before racing began.

The electric second year driver gave him trouble early, overtaking on the outside a third of the way through the race, and while he couldn't hold the championship leader off for long, it was enough of a problem to allow Hamilton an easy ride to a race win.

In fact, on lap 15, he was caught by wunderkid Max Verstappen who passed him on the outside at Becketts on the following lap, and kept second even after the following stop for slicks.

He told reporters: "Our performance this weekend has been outstanding".

"In the final laps, he was stuck in seventh gear, which was clearly a critical problem that would have resulted in failure".

After the decision was announced, the team had one hour in which to lodge its intention to appeal in order to open up a 96-hour window to confirm its appeal through its national sporting authority, the Deutscher Motor Sport Bund.

In a statement Monday a team statement said: "The Team accepts the Stewards' interpretation of the regulation, their decision and the associated penalty".
