Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman named to U.S. Olympic gymnastics team

Laurie finished second to Simone at the trials and is the first Puerto Rican woman to make the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team.

Karolyi wanted to see strides from Raisman on floor exercise, beam and vault - and was clearly convinced the 2012 USA captain at the London Games and defending Olympic champion on floor is poised for a strong run in Rio.

It's important to note, however, that the US women's team managed the gold medal in individual all-around and team all-around at the 2012 London Olympics.

Douglas, who struggled throughout the competition, was expecting tears - like when she was named to the team in 2012.

"Just hanging out with Nadia and checking out some gymnastics", Bryant said.

There will be no Olympic double for Allyson Felix.

Former Haddonfield High School runner Marielle Hall knew she was already an Olympian no matter what happened in her 5,000-meter race Sunday, the final day of action at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field. Felix still has the 400, an event she won last weekend, and will focus on that.

Rowbury, the American record holder for 1,500, crossed the finish line in a time of 4:05.39 and placed second overall to secure a spot on her third consecutive Olympic team.

The Rio Olympic Games 2016 track & field competition is scheduled to begin August 12 and run through August 21.

When the two crossed the finish line behind victor Tori Bowie and second-place Deajah Stevens, it was so close it wasn't immediately clear who had finished third to secure the final qualifying spot.

But she finished third on uneven bars behind Kocian and Locklear, and national team coordinator Martha Karolyi has long believed in Douglas' ability to turn it up when the pressure is on.

For starters, she'll be representing Team USA during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Erik Kynard Begins Quest for Second Olympic Medal in High Jump 2012 Olympic silver medalist Erik Kynard was flawless over four heights to capture the Olympic trials high jump in 2.29m. She finished third in the 5,000.

Hard-luck Brenda Martinez, who failed to make the US team in the 800 metres after a late race entanglement, finished third in 4:06.16 to qualify for the Games.

DIVING FOR RIO: Prandini wasn't the only one who left her feet trying to get that last spot. She finished second, 2.100 points behind.

"It was such a relief because it was so nerve-wracking", she said. Sandi Morris, 24, and Lexi Weeks, 19, are also factors in final.

Jenn Suhr clears the bar during the women's pole vault final at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, Sunday, July 10, 2016, in Eugene Ore.

McLaughlin joins victor Dalilah Muhammad and runner-up Ashley Spencer on the team headed to Rio. The 2012 Olympic silver medalist finished with a time of 48.82 seconds. But that's why McLaughlin appreciates Felix - those kinds of setbacks don't get her down.

"Unlike two of the top women on uneven bars, Madison Kocian and Ashton Locklear, Douglas can also contribute on balance beam, floor exercise and, should she get her Amanar back, on vault", Armour wrote.
