Gears of War 4 Includes Microtransactions for Cosmetic Items

In adddition to revealing its official release date, Microsoft also released the first official Gears of War 4 trailer. Here it is to remind you.

As the soldier runs for his life, the trailer cuts to the past where Marcus Fenix, his wife - presumably Anya - and a young boy are having fun in their expansive yard. This will be followed up with an appearance at the PAX East event in Boston, Massachusetts where Gears of War 4 will be on display for attendees.

It is a great trailer, and the promo activity for the Gears series has always been pretty spectacular.

Gears of War 4 has set a new standard for itself, even rumored on starting something new compared to the past three titles.

"Gears of War 4" is expected to release on October 11 as an Xbox One exclusive, but before that a beta is scheduled later this month. To that end, the multiplayer component of the game is being designed from the ground up to appeal to pro players, commentators and spectators. Users are anxious that The Coalition might be adding in wacky, colorful customization options, similar to those that sullied the multiplayer modes of Gears of War: Judgement for some.

Of course, the marketplace in Gears of War 4 will be hawking far more than just maps. Today the game's developers The Coalition talked to Gamespot about the game's microtransactions and how they'll work.

But in order to take part you'll still need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to jump into the bloodthirsty fun, before it concludes on May 1.

To prevent this, all new Gears of War 4 DLC maps will be available for free, but only if you're happy playing them online in matches open to any other player.

If you didn't play the Ultimate Edition and you're desperate to get involved as soon as possible, there's still hope yet.
