Jimmy Carter Grandson Dies

Jimmy Carter walks with his grandsons Jeremy Carter and Hugo Wentzel. Jeremy died on Sunday at the age of 28

President Jimmy Carter told his Plains, Georgia, church that his grandson, Jeremy Carter, died early Sunday, according to the Rev. Jeremy Shoulta, pastor of Maranatha Baptist Church.

The cause of death was unclear.

Carter, who leads a Sunday school class at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, said it was the first time he was late due to the death of Jeremy Carter, 28, just hours earlier. "He lives his life as a lesson for other people to see". 19, the otherwise healthy 28-year-old told his mom he wasn't feeling well and then went to lay down for a little while.

President Carter was fearless enough to teach his Sunday school class as always, even after his grandson's passing.

Carter, a former peanut farmer, served as US president from 1977 to 1981, losing his reelection bid to Ronald Reagan. However, he was visibly "shaken" and "obviously sad", claims the reverend.

Carter announced at the same church two weeks ago that he was cancer-free, four months after he revealed that his melanoma had spread from his liver to his brain.

Church members said they weren't surprised Carter attended services.

I want what Jimmy Carter had. The former president is a devout Christian and has been described as the most religious man to ever be president. His presence at the church today gave him an opportunity to fulfill his obligations to the church and also to feel the loving presence of his faith community.
